Frequently Asked Questions about FeelGood Tasteless Protein

Collagen proteins are extracted from high quality bovine hides. Collagen protein lacks one of the essential amino acids – tryptophan. Tryptophan is added to Feelgood Tasteless Protein collagen to form a complete protein, meaning it contains all the essential amino acids and is a superior protein choice.

You need all the essential amino acids present in your blood stream at all times to be available for use in hormones, brain chemicals, new cells, muscles and more. When the supply of an essential amino acid is limited, the body breaks down muscle to supply the balance.

Feelgood Tasteless contains 14g complete protein per scoop whilst the flavoured protein water contains 15g incomplete protein in 2 (smaller) scoops.

The flavoured protein waters are broadly enjoyed and taste similar to a cordial. The tasteless protein is very well tolerated, can still be used to add to diet cordials where that is sought, and is valuable for adding to baked goods, savoury foods or anywhere where added flavour is not appropriate.

Some people do detect a flavour and choose to add it to more strongly flavoured options such as coffee or baked goods for the benefit of a low calorie high protein supplement.

There is no true consensus on beneficial intakes of protein. The recommended daily intake is 0.8g per kg ideal body weight. It is broadly considered that during periods of weight loss, higher intakes of protein result in less muscle loss which is beneficial for maintaining metabolic rate. Intakes of up to 2g per kg ideal body weight have been suggested by some groups. In our practice, we use body composition analysis equipment to monitor weight loss and muscle loss in our clients and find that adequate muscle retention can be achieved with an intake of 1.2g per kg ideal body weight. We recommend achieving this or higher levels with the use of approximately 30g of added protein per day. This relieves pressure from having to only eat protein foods at each meal and ensures space for fibre in the form of fruit, vegetables, nuts and grains.
